The Institute of Pure and Applied Physics (IPAP) publishes an online
edition of Journal of the Physical Society of Japan (JPSJ), Japanese Journal
of Applied Physics (JJAP) and Progress of Theoretical Physics (PTP).
- Publication Date of
an article and its uploaded local time
Since October 2003, IPAP publishes an online edition of Japanese
Journal of Applied Physics Parts 1 & 2 before a publishing
of their print edition. This means that the online edition of the
journal is a primary publication. In making this change, a "published
date" is added in each PDF article page and table of contents.
Since January 2004, the JJAP Part 2 (Letters and Express Letters)
is published weekly although its print edition is published at same
schedule, once every two weeks.
For a purpose of author's application of patent of his/her article,
the actual uploaded local time at Tokyo, Japan will appear at the
table of contents. Under the Japanese
Patent Law, applicants are requested to provide a copy of web
pages which indicate (1) the date of publication, (2) the URL where
the article is available, (3) a print copy of the article and (4)
producers name. (See
for details in Japanese.) IPAP as a producer of the electronic
edition of the journal validates that the electronic paper is the
same as a print version by using the checksum method. (See the guide
for "Checksum")
- Checksum for validate an article
IPAP has introduced a system which uses checksums to validate the
coidentity between the online and print editions of JJAP articles.
(This system only applies to Japanese Journal of Applied Physics.)
A unique number, 'checksum' is given to each PDF article in the table
of contents, and is shown as
"full text PDF: MD5 checksum = 3d948e4568d1ef8088a38465afetba8a".
The 'checksum' is a md5-checksum for each PDF article. The 'checksum'
is changed when the PDF article is replaced or changed in any way.
This enables readers and authors to be sure that the article published
on the IPAP server is the same as that in the print edition in the
journal.
If you need to validate a PDF article, for example, for the purpose
of a patent application, please contact us via fax (+81-3-5844-3290)
or e-mail (online-support@ipap.jp). We will send you the checksum
of the PDF article via fax. [Note] We will not send you a hard-copy
of the article.

- Mutual Linking from Reference List
-IPAP produces a hyperlinking from journal article reference lists
to their citing articles by using either Linkmanager or CrossRef
in IPAP
Online Journals.
-To link to IPAP online journal articles, IPAP encourages publishers,
libraries and readers to use the above URL methods.
- About DOI
DOI (digital object indentifier) is given to each published article
since 2002. Please see the
official site for DOI and its missions.
